In 2019, I worked with Aynayatul Khoiriyah for the Data Analysis Competition (DAC). This was an international event in Southeast Asia, so the official language was English. The competition had three stages: the preliminary round, the semifinal, and the final.
Preliminary Round
In this round, we studied Air Quality Index (AQI) data from the United States. First, we cleaned the data carefully to make sure it was correct. Our goals were to group different areas in the US based on air quality and to understand the pollution levels in each state.
Semifinal Round
We were one of the top 30 teams in this stage. We had only four hours to study telecommunication data and create a model. Even though we had only one laptop for both our report and our modeling, we successfully built a Decision Tree model. We used this to predict “customer churn” (when customers stop using a service). Our main tasks were:
- To understand how customers behave in a telecom company.
- To build a model to predict if a customer will leave.
- To find the most important variables that describe customer behavior.
Final Round and Results
In the final stage, we presented all our work. Our hard work was successful:
- 2nd Place in the Data Analysis category.
- 1st Place for the Best Poster Presentation.
We are very proud of our team. It was a great opportunity to participate in such an important competition.
